The Packhorse Garden

The Packhorse Garden
(Page Updated June 19th)

For those who may not know of this Westbury delight, it is situated at the bottom and to the right of Chock Lane, just before the bridge over the Trym. Amongst other things, it is a favourite spot for parents to wait for theier children at the end of the school day...

Although WoTSoc does not own the land, it has been associated with the Garden for many years, installing the wooden seats in 2008 and planting shrubs and laying down grit for the pathway in 2015. The initial team comprised Hilary and Bill Long, Arthur Brice, David Parke and Sam Muscat, four of whom are shown here - as usual, Bill is behind the camera!

This year, the current working party has removed the ivy and cut back the overgrown shrubs, then sanded down and repainted the wooden seating with preservative. Tasks yet to be undetaken include relaying the path with additional grit and continuing to reseed the grassy area... Weather and other commitments permitting, the group meet at the garden from 2pm on the first Sunday of each month. If you would like to help, please contact us by email or phone to check the date or just turn up!
